HC Deb 20 March 1986 vol 94 c277W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many behaviour-modifying drugs, by type, have been issued to inmates of Her Majesty's prisons during the last seven years; and what proportion of such drugs issued was valium;

(2) how many behaviour-modifying drugs have been issued to inmates in Her Majesty's prisons Holloway and Styal during the last seven years; what proportion of such drugs issued was valium; and how many inmates admitted to either of these prisons during the same period had been prescribed drugs to be taken on a regular basis by their general practitioner prior to admission.

Mr. Mellor

Statistical records of medicines administered to inmate patients to not enable identification of specific proprietary brands (such as valium) or their generic equivalents. Statistical records of medicines prescribed for patients before their reception into prison custody are not kept by the Department.
