HC Deb 20 March 1986 vol 94 c271W
29. Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent representations he has received about the level of penalties available to the courts for offences against the person involving or including robbery.

Mr. Mellor

We receive few representations about robbery as distinct from other crimes of violence. Since 1 January the Department has received 45 letters about penalties for offences including robbery, 20 of which were forwarded by right hon. and hon. Members. The maximum penalty upon conviction for robbery is life imprisonment.
