HL Deb 20 March 1986 vol 472 cc1146-7WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What discussions have been held between the governments which have undertaken the representation of, on the one hand, British, and on the other, Argentinian interests on the subject of the accelerating depletion of fish stocks around the Falkland Islands.

Baroness Young

We are in contact with all governments with an interest in the South-West Atlantic fishery. We have impressed on them the need for a multilaterally-based fisheries conservation and management regime, and urged them to participate in the FAO's constructive initiative designed to achieve such a regime. It would not be appropriate to reveal the content of confidential exchanges conducted on our behalf by the protecting powers.
