HC Deb 19 March 1986 vol 94 c207W
Mr. John Townend

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the level of coastguard services on the east coast in the Humber area.

Mr. Ridley

Yes. However, early next year it is planned to re-locate Her Majesty's Coastguard's maritime rescue sub-centre Humber from Spurn Point to Bridlington. It is planned to take over as the regional headquarters from Her Majesty's Coastguard Great Yarmouth which will be retained as a sub-centre with no loss of operational responsibility. It is hoped to complete the move before Easter 1987, by which time some reorganisation of regional facilities will also have been completed. The overall effect will be a much improved and efficient search and rescue service on the east coast without any change in staff levels.
