asked the Paymaster General what are the latest figures for the YTS weekly allowance as a percentage of the average weekly wage of 16 and 17-year-olds in full-time employment.

In April 1985, the YTS allowance was 39 per cent. of the average gross weekly earnings and 48 per cent. of the take-home pay of 16 and 17-year-olds in full-time employment.
