HC Deb 18 March 1986 vol 94 c143W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government in relation to the sale of Crown land in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Mr. Eggar

The provisions relating to the sale of Crown land in the Turks and Caicos Islands are set out at section 56 of the Constitution (The Turks and Caicos Islands Constitution) Order 1976.

Our policy on the sale of Crown land was circulated to the Governors of dependent Territories in a dispatch dated 12 September 1969. It requires the Governments of grant-aided territories to consult the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as soon possible whenever property developers or other commercial organisations put propositions to them for the conclusion of agreement in order that the proposals may be scrutinised in London.
