HC Deb 18 March 1986 vol 94 c95W
76. Mr. Dubs

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now introduce contract compliance as a means of tackling racial discrimination.

Mr. Brooke

The main objective of Government purchasing is to obtain value for money. Within Government contracts there is a standard condition that contractors shall not unlawfully discriminate within the meaning and scope of the provisions of the race relations legislation. When it comes to the attention of a Department that a contractor is discriminating unlawfully, the contractor will be asked to take any necessary preventive action.
