Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will publish in the Official Report, by operator group, the numbers of public service vehicles which (a) failed the annual test for each traffic area in Great Britain for each year from 1982–83 onwards and (b) failed the annual test for each traffic area in Great Britain after rectification of minor faults, for each year from 1982–83 onwards.

The figures show that, except in a few instances, all operator groups in all areas have achieved a significant reduction in the percentage of vehicles that fail the annual test at the first attempt and in the percentage that fail after the rectification of minor faults.
