§ Mr. LangInformation about job gains and job losses is not available from the Department's statistics, but an indication of the net changes can be seen by comparing levels of employment at different dates.
The following table gives, for the industries and areas specified, the net changes in employment between September 1979 and September 1985 (the latest date for which figures are available). Separate estimates are available for the shipbuilding and engineering industries only at national level. At regional level they are included in the metal goods, engineering and vehicles industries (division 3 of the 1980 standard industrial classification). Regional estimates for the textiles (including man-made fibres) industry are not available.
