HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 c3W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many physics posts are currently estimated to be vacant in secondary schools; and what proportion of these are in secondary schools in the Wolverhampton education authority area.

Mr. Chris Patten

Based on incomplete returns for January 1986 from local education authorities, it is estimated that there were about 140 unfilled vacancies for posts in maintained secondary schools in England for which physics was the main teaching subject required. Two vacancies in that subject were reported by Wolverhampton local education authority.
