HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 c15W
63. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement concerning the current work in hand of the Tropical Development Research Institute in respect of pest control.

Mr. Raison

Approximately one third of TDRI staff work on pest control. The main targets are major agricultural crops afflicted with widespread and migratory pests; and important storage pests. The programme also extends to some carriers of human and animal diseases, such as tsetse flies and blackflies. Much of the effort relates to Africa, but there is a significant Asian element as well.
