HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 c68W
Mr. Robert Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what consultations he has had, or will have, with the officials of the House responsible for the safety of those working in the House about the safety implications of excessive static electricity within the bounds of the House.

Sir George Young

The atmosphere in the House can become highly charged for a number of reasons. Although sparks may fly on occasions, there appears to be no firm evidence that the discomfort or shock caused by such discharges of energy constitute a danger to health. Indeed, I have noticed a stimulant effect in some cases.
