Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table showing separately for (i) hospital and community health services, (ii) family practitioner services and (iii) social work, actual and planned expenditure in Scotland for the years 1978–79 to 1988–89 in (a) cash prices, (b) cost terms and (c) volume terms, and showing the percentage increases over 1978–79, on a basis consistent with Table 2.12 of Cmnd. 9702-II.

3. Figures in specific pay and price terms have been constructed by reference to the pay and price indices for Health and Personal Social Services maintained by DHSS for England: no separate pay and prices indices for Scotland are available.

4. Forecasts of pay and price movements for health and personal social services are not available for 1985–86, nor for the public expenditure planning period.
