HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 c83W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the extra revenue in a full year of increasing the tax on cigarettes by 10p, 15p and 25p, respectively, per packet of 20 cigarettes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

The estimated net additional revenue, at 1986–87 prices, would be:

Increase in price of 20 cigarettes (pence) Full year revenue yield (£ million)
10 310
15 460
25 750

The larger the price increase, the greater the degree of uncertainty to which these estimates are subject.
