asked the Secretary of State for Transport which services relating to the railway operations of British Rail, excluding hotels and land, have been privatised since 1979.

The British Railways Board has privatised the ferry services formerly provided by Seaspeed and Sealink. It is also encouraging private firms to the tender for a range of products and services, competing with the board's in-house suppliers on fair and equal terms.
