§ Mr. RifkindAs I announced last week I will set up an independent inquiry into teachers' pay and other matters. The inquiry will be free to make whatever recommendations it sees fit, having heard the evidence put to it. Meantime the Government have given no new commitment to make additional resources available; when the inquiry has reported its recommendations will be considered in full.
