Dr. Cunningham

asked the Paymaster General if he will publish the total number of people in employment in each non-metropolitan county, metropolitan county and the Greater London area in April of each year from 1975 to 1985, showing the percentage change from year to year, and the overall percentage change from 1975 to 1985.

The available information is as follows and relates to June each year from 1975 to 1978, when censuses of employment were taken. For the Greater London area, figures for periods since 1981 are derived from employment estimates based on small-scale sample inquiries which do not produce reliable results for smaller areas. asked the Paymaster General how many people in Batley and Spen have been employed for (a) more than six months, (b) more than one year and (c) more than two years.

On 9 January 1986, the latest date for which an analysis of unemployment by duration is available, the numbers of claimants in the Batley and Spen parliamentary constituency who had been unemployed for more than six months, one year, and two years were 3,134, 2,188 and 1,335 respectively.
