HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 cc382-3W
Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what are the current whereabouts of the offside rear shock absorber of the crashed three-wheel carriage driven by Mrs. B. of Rutland, (Department reference P0(5) 4374/61); and why it was removed by representatives of his Department prior to the second visit by Mrs. B.'s consultant engineer to the Ministry's retained garage in December 1983;

(2) what tests were carried out by representatives of his Department on the removed shock absorber of Mrs. B. of Rutland's invalid carriage prior to December 1983; why they were only instigated after the first report in May 1983 by Mrs. B.'s consultant engineer; what was the result of the tests; and what steps were taken to notify Mrs. B.'s legal advisers of the findings;

(3) why no response was made by his Department's artificial limb and appliance centre at Sherwood hospital to the oral and written complaints made by Mrs. B. of Rutland (reference P0(5) 4374/61) about the condition of her three-wheeled invalid carriage in February 1982; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

[pursuant to his reply, 6 February 1986, c. 214]: I have now written to my hon. Friend.
