HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 c366W
Mr. Couchman

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the total value of Government subsidy given to Manchester international airport since it was formed in 1956.

Mr. Michael Spicer

[pursuant to the reply, 7 March 1986, c. 312]: According to readily available records, under the financial provisions of the 1955 municipalisation agreement (long since terminated) the Government paid grants of some £3 million towards the cost of airport developments. Under the same agreement the Government incurred costs of a similar order in providing navigation services to the airport free of charge.
