§ Mr. Couchmanasked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the total value of Government subsidy given to Manchester international airport since it was formed in 1956.
§ Mr. Michael Spicer[pursuant to the reply, 7 March 1986, c. 312]: According to readily available records, under the financial provisions of the 1955 municipalisation agreement (long since terminated) the Government paid grants of some £3 million towards the cost of airport developments. Under the same agreement the Government incurred costs of a similar order in providing navigation services to the airport free of charge.
