asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimate he has of the effect on employment in the pharmaceutical industry of the introduction of the selected list of drugs.

It is impossible to identify accurately the effect on employment of a particular change of policy. But Department of employment statistics on the pharmaceutical industry as a whole show that over the period December 1984 to December 1985 the number employed rose by 500.
