HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 cc365-6W
Mr. Robert Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will meet the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority to discuss the safety aspect of air traffic controllers' working hours.

Mr. Ridley

The CAA has advised me there are no statutory maximum working hours for air traffic controllers in the United Kingdom. It would be impracticable to define levels which would be appropriate for every airport, bearing in mind the widely variable intensity of operation throughout the United Kingdom. Rostering of controllers is the responsibility of local management, with the advice of the NATS inspectorate of ATC.
