HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 c355W
Sir Richard Body

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether any member of the Advisory Committee on Pesticides has ever received a fee as a consultant or for research from a company manufacturing pesticides; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

Given the number of eminent scientists who have contributed to the work of the Advisory Committee on Pesticides since its inception in 1954—then titled the Advisory Committee on Poisonous Substances used in Agriculture and Food Storage—it is not practicable to provide the information requested.

However, my hon. Friend can be assured that great care has always been taken to ensure that members of advisory committee do not have any financial or commercial interests which would be likely to prejudice the proper discharge of their functions as members of the committee and the existing membership have all signed a declaration to that effect.
