HC Deb 07 March 1986 vol 93 c315W
Mr. Spencer

asked the Paymaster General if he will make a statement on his recent visit to Leicester.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I visited Leicester on 28 February following our recently announced initiative to help the Highfields inner city area, and seven other similar areas, by setting up a task force to co-ordinate Government spending, improve the allocation of resources, and forge links with the local community. In the course of the day I met political leaders and officials of Leicestershire county and Leicester city councils, and had a valuable working lunch with representatives and residents of Leicester's Highfields workshop centre.

I also had the opportunity of briefly visiting a garage set up under the enterprise allowance scheme in the Highfields area.
