§ Mr. WaldenMy right hon. Friend recently discussed the guidelines with the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals. As a result of that discussion the committee chairman has written to reiterate the universities' unequivocal and forthright support for freedom of speech, and making it clear that nothing in their guidance was intended to afford a pretext for cancelling a meeting other than in the most exceptional circumstances.
