HC Deb 04 March 1986 vol 93 c96W
105. Mr. Mallon

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what have been the changes in the level of student grants, especially for those students from Northern Ireland, who are studying in Britain.

Dr. Mawhinney

The rates for mandatory awards, which were increased by around 3 per cent. for 1985–86, apply irrespective of whether students are studying within Northern Ireland or elsewhere within the United Kingdom. They are as follows:

  • £1,480 for students studying from their parental home;
  • £1,830 for students living away from home but outside London; and
  • £2,165 for students living away from home in London.
