HC Deb 04 March 1986 vol 93 c97W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he proposes to take to require the Scottish Examination Board to review its syllabus for the higher grade examination in religious studies following the representations from various bodies about its apparent discrimination against candidates who are not of the Christian religion.

Mr. Allan Stewart

A number of representations were received by the Scottish Examination Board during the course of its normal consultations on the proposed new higher grade religious studies course about the fact that a candidate may concentrate wholly on Christianity if he or she wishes. These comments were considered and rejected by the board's religious studies panel. The new syllabus, like all other syllabuses of the Scottish Examination Board, will in any event be kept under review. I therefore see no reason to take any action.
