Mr. Dunn

The question of school repair and maintenance was discussed at last month's meeting of NEDC, which my right hon. Friend attended. In addition, my Department received last April a copy of a Building Employers Confederation publication entitled "Building — the Nation's needs: Spotlight on Education Buildings" which included comments on school building maintenance. More generally, this issue has been covered in the report last May from Her Majesty's Inspectorate on the effect on education provision of LEA expenditure policies in 1984, in a report in October 1985 from the National Confederation of Parent Teacher associations and in 1985 conference resolutions from the Council of Local Education Authorities (CLEA) and the Campaign for the Advancement of State Education (CASE). My right hon. Friend and I also receive letters on this subject from time to time.
