HC Deb 04 March 1986 vol 93 c99W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Paymaster General how many 16-year-old 1985 school leavers are not taking advantage of a place on the YTS, and are currently registered as unemployed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

In January 1986 there were an estimated 100,000 young people in Great Britain included in the count of unemployed claimants who left school in 1985 aged 16. Most remain eligible to take advantage of the YTS: some were waiting to take up a YTS place allocated to them and others can be expected to participate later on. In addition, some members of the group will already have taken part in the YTS since leaving school.
