§ 45. Mr. Roger Kingasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what role he intends schools to play in combating drug abuse.
§ Mr. DunnSchools have a vital role to play in helping to combat drug abuse. By using their skills and experience, and with the benefit of material and expertise from professional agencies, teachers are able to inform young people of the dangers of experimenting with drugs and help those who are at risk. The Government have announced a number of measures to help them in this role, including the publication of a booklet "Drug Misuse and the Young" which provides information for teachers about the drugs problem; the appointment of drug advisers in each local education authority to stimulate and co-ordinate action within the education service aimed at combating drug misuse and the funding of the preparation by the Health Education Council of curriculum materials on drugs education for use in schools.
