§ Mr. TebbitThe Duchy of Lancaster Office administers, under my supervision, the Queen's estates in the right of Her Duchy of Lancaster; and other palatinate responsibilities which fall to me, such as the appointment of high sheriffs and of magistrates within the counties of Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside; and the administration of intestate estates within the county palatine. In addition, there are a small number of historical appointments to church livings and the governing bodies of schools and universities.
