HC Deb 04 March 1986 vol 93 c104W
15. Mr. Favell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will estimate the financial effects of introducing continental school hours.

Mr. Dunn

I assume my hon. Friend is referring to a school day which starts much earlier than now and ends at about 1 o'clock or 2 o'clock. Such a day is found on the continent only in Denmark, Italy and Germany. It is not possible to estimate the cost of changing to it, as it would vary considerably from school to school.
