HC Deb 04 March 1986 vol 93 cc120-1W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied that heat treatment of blood products made available to haemophiliacs removes all reasonable risk of HTLV3 infection.

Mr. Whitney

I am advised that the heat treatment processes currently used should inactivate any HTLV3 virus which might be present in the coagulation factor concentrates used by haemophiliacs. We have no evidence of transmission of the virus resulting from the use of the heat treated material currently available in this country.
