§ Mr. WhitneyThe estimated number of operations for total hip replacement and other arthroplasty of hip performed in National Health Service hospitals in the northern regional health authority in 1984, the latest year for which figures are available centrally, was 2,010. A whole-time equivalent of 46.1 consultants in the specialty of traumatic and orthopaedic surgery were employed by this authority during 1984–85 but no information is held centrally about how many individual consultants performed these operations.
