§ Mr. Alex Carlileasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement concerning the recent disappearance of a handgun and ammunition from Gillingham police station and the consequent inquiry.
§ Mr. Giles ShawI understand from the chief constable of Kent constabulary that a routine check of firearms stored at Gillingham police station at the end of April revealed that a firearm and some ammunition were unaccounted for. The chief constable has ordered a full investigation of the matter as well as a review of force procedures for the storage and security of firearms. The chief constable will in due course forward a report to Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary who is aware of the incident and who will keep us informed.
