HC Deb 30 June 1986 vol 100 c403W
Mr. Grist

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps his Department proposes to further the teaching of foreign language in schools and colleges in Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

On Monday 16 June 1986 my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State and the Secretary of State for Education and Science published a draft statement of policy on foreign languages in the school curriculum. It sets out a programme of action which is in our view essential to raise standards.

The draft policy statement has been sent for comment to a wide range of organisations in education and in industry and commerce. We intend to issue it substantively before the end of the year. Copies of the draft statement have been placed in the Library.
