§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Prime Minister if she will now make a statement on the review of legal aid funding.
§ The Solicitor-General[pursuant to the reply, 17 June 1986, c. 512]: I have been asked to reply.
Copies of the report have today been placed in the Libraries of both Houses of Parliament. Further copies may be obtained, priced £5, from the Lord Chancellor's Department.
The Government are grateful to the scrutiny team for the careful and thorough way it has gone about its task and welcomes the report as a useful basis for consideration of improvements in the efficiency of the legal aid scheme. Before decisions are taken on the recommendations, the Government would welcome comments on them. These should be sent to the Lord Chancellor's Department, Room 316, Neville House, Page Street, London, SW1 to arrive by 30 September 1986.
