§ 50. Mr. Baldryasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent representations he has received from the Parole Board concerning sentencing policy.
§ Mr. MellorIn its annual report for 1985, published recently, the Parole Board noted that concern had been expressed by the judiciary about the operation of section 33 of the Criminal Justice Act 1982 which extended eligibility for parole to prisoners serving shorter sentences. We are looking at this aspect of the parole scheme to see whether improvements can be made.
