HC Deb 26 June 1986 vol 100 c298W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons, on the latest available information, are in receipt of mobility allowance; and if he will estimate how many of these persons suffer from a mental handicap.

Mr. Newton

Four hundred and thirty thousand people are currently receiving mobility allowance. As the hon. Member will see from my reply to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South on 16 May at column589 it is not possible to identify the number suffering from a mental handicap.
