HC Deb 25 June 1986 vol 100 c205W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to the answer of 24 October 1985, Official Report, columns 232–5, if he will state the exact date when the Strathclyde regional chemist commenced undertaking analyses for polychlorinated biphenyls, polychlorinated terphenyls, polybrominated byplenys, dioxins and furans.

Mr. Ancram

While the Strathclyde regional council's Department of the regional chemist may have undertaken analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) for some time, I understand that the first samples taken for analysis of dioxins in addition to polychlorinated biphenyls was on 3 April 1984.
