§ Mr. MellorThe scheme provides for compensation to be paid for personal injury attributable to a traffic offence where a deliberate attempt has been made to run the victim186W down. A person who has suffered injuries caused by a motor vehicle may also be within the scope of the scheme if he was attempting to prevent an offence or to apprehend a suspected offender. Other persons injured as a result of traffic offences, including those committed by drivers of stolen cars, have access to compensation through compulsory motor insurance and Motor Insurers' Bureau arrangements. The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme is at present under review in preparation for legislation.
