HC Deb 25 June 1986 vol 100 cc239-40W
Mr. Mudd

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many bridges on trunk roads have weight restrictions; and if any analysis is available for the number of restrictions according to gross vehicle weight.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

A programme of assessing older trunk road bridges to BD21/84 will be required in order to take account of the increase in heavy vehicle traffic over the years and developments in bridge design. This is likely to result in some weight restrictions until any strengthening can be completed. A 32 tonne gross weight restriction applies to the bridge carrying the A10 over the railway at Enfield in North London, but no other trunk road bridge in England has a weight restriction at present. The gross weights of vehicles using roads are limited by construction and use regulations.
