HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 c53W
40. Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what initiatives his Department is currently taking to relieve the debt burden of the less developed countries.

Mr. Raison

Britain has had a generous policy for the poorest countries of converting past aid loans into grants. Twenty-one countries have benefited at a total cost of nearly £1 billion. All new bilateral aid to these countries is provided on grant terms.
