HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 cc53-4W
47. Mr. Livsey

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proportion of the aid budget is allocated for transporting food into recipient countries.

Mr. Raison

We do not make a separate allocation for these costs. In 1985 food aid accounted for 8 per cent. of total gross public expenditure on aid, but within that the transport element cannot be separately identified. A further £18 million was spent on the airlift of food in Ethiopia in 1985 and £6 million has been allocated this year on transporting food within Sudan.
