HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 c55W
13. Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Transport when he last met the chairman of British Rail; and what subjects were discussed.

Mr. David Mitchell

I last met the chairman on 10 June and discussed a wide range of matters of current interest.

17. Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, when he next meets the chairman of British Rail, he will raise with him the current level of investment in British Rail; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

It is for the board, not me, to propose what investment should take place. At present it plans £2 billion investment over the next five years, of which half has already been approved.

In addition the Government have approved in principle investment of up to £390 million for rail services associated with the Channel tunnel.

26. Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Transport when he will next meet the chairman of British Rail.

Mr. David Mitchell

We are next due to meet on 26 June.

27. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

Mr. David Mitchell

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply earlier today to my hon. Friend the Member for Northampton, North (Mr. Marlow).
