§ Mr. Simon Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will make a statement on the outcome of the meeting between the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Wycombe (Mr. Whitney) and representatives of the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley special health authority on 12 June.
§ Mr. WhitneyThis was a useful meeting at which a number of issues were clarified. I emphasised the importance of the authority bringing its budget back into balance no later than the end of March 1988 and taking early decisions to achieve this but promised to look sympathetically at a number of issues raised by this authority, whose work the Government value greatly. I am writing to the chairman of the authority to confirm the points we agreed.
