When a health board proposes to close a hospital facility it is required to consult widely with all interested parties and, having done so, submit its formal case to the Secretary of State for his approval. In reaching a view, my right hon. and learned Friend and I will take full account of the representations which have been received both by him and by the board during their consultation process, from organisations and individuals in the area affected by the board's proposal.
