HL Deb 19 June 1986 vol 476 c1158WA
Lord Gallagher

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether consideration has been given to the suggestion by the Consumers' Committee for Great Britain that a food consumer's body be established within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to advise Ministers on broad issues of food policy affecting consumers and to subsume the responsibility of the existing Consumers' Committee.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

This recommendation has been given full consideration by my right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food. However, the Government are not convinced that the existing extensive arrangements for consulting consumers would be materially improved by the addition of a body of the sort proposed.
