HC Deb 17 June 1986 vol 99 c508W
Mr. Robert Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of civil defence volunteers who have received training in understanding the hazards of radiation; and what are the measures that they can advise being taken by people to avoid contamination.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The effects of, and protection against nuclear attack are included in the training programme for all civil defence volunteers. Records are not kept centrally of the numbers who have been trained.

The review of emergency arrangements for peacetime disasters following Chernobyl will include the potential role for civil defence.
