HC Deb 16 June 1986 vol 99 cc378-9W
Mr. Spencer

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the total value of British bilateral aid to sub-Saharan African countries in 1985; and what proportion of this was used for agriculture and related activities.

Mr. Raison

British bilateral aid directly allocable to sub-Saharan countries in 1985 totalled £285 million. Figures on the proportion of this used for agriculture and related activities are not yet available. In 1984 30 per cent. of our bilateral aid allocable by sector in sub-Saharan African countries was devoted to agriculture and related activities.
