HC Deb 16 June 1986 vol 99 c471W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what contacts have been made during the past three years by military attaches from the South African embassy with personnel (a) in his Department and (b) in the defence forces.

Mr. Stanley

During the past three years, South African attachés, as part of organised groups of attachés from other Foreign and Commonwealth countries, have made some 30 visits to defence establishments and attended six defence-related social or ceremonial functions. Also, in November 1983 the air attaché visited the search and rescue establishments at Pitreavie and Bulmer, and in May 1984 the military attaché visited the Army school of physical education. Other contacts with Ministry of Defence or other service personnel are not recorded, but are infrequent.
